New Trier Wins Illinois State Age Group Titles

By M. Duncan Scott

PHOENIX, Ariz, August 29. NEW Trier Swim Club (NTSC), of Winnetka, Illinois captured its first State Age Group Junior Olympic Championship, earlier this month.

New Trier has been one of the most prominent names in high school swimming over the last 50 year, since the days of Coach Dave Robertson. It now moves to the front in club swimming as well.

NTSC dominated perennial powers Naperville, Saint Charles, and Academy amongst 74 competing teams, amassing 1445 points — nearly 250 ahead of its closest rival, St. Charles.

NTSC 13-14 girls smashed 3 Illinois state age group records. Olympic Trialist Alisa Finn, 13, won two state titles including a great 200 breaststroke duel with another Trials qualifier Ashley Wanland, Patriot Aquatics, 14. Alisa won in 2:35.11.

Emily Dominski, 14 won 4 titles including the 50 free, 26.89.

Andrew Snabes, 13, won 5 events, including the 100, 200 and 400 freestyles (:56.12, 2:03.06, 4:20.30) and 100 and 200 butterflys (59.27 and 2:10.93, close, but not quite bettering the state record of 2:09.34).
