New Mexico State Champion Max Hawton Sends Verbal to Kentucky
NEW COMMIT: Max Hawton of Albuquerque, New Mexico has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Kentucky as a member of the class of 2023.
Hawton does his club swimming with Charger Aquatics and is a four-time Junior National qualifier with a U.S. Open cut in the 100m free and placed 15th in the event at Juniors this summer. He recorded four lifetime bests at Juniors West last winter and had five second swims at Federal Way Speedo Sectionals. The NISCA All-American also swims for Sandia High School and won the 50 free and 100 back at the NMAA State Championships during his junior season.
He told Swimming World:
“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Kentucky. I can’t wait to be a part of such an amazing staff and team that will help me reach my goals in and out of the pool! Go Cats!”
His best times include:
- 50 free – 20.74
- 100 free – 45.32
- 100 back – 49.39
- 200 back – 1:49.81
Hawton’s free and back talents will be valuable when he suits up for the Wildcats at the start of the 2019-20 season and will add more depth to their lineup. He’ll join a sprint group that includes John Mitchell and Glen Brown and a backstroke squad led by Connor Blandford.
