New Jersey Women’s High School State Championships

SEWELL, New Jersey, April 7. HADDONFIELD junior Emily Creran set the lone state record at the women's New Jersey State Championships.

Creran shaved .09 off of Katherine Conroy of Haddonfield's 1998 record of 2:03.83 in the 200 IM, touching the wall at 2:03.74. In addition, Creran mounted a comeback on the final half of the 100 backstroke, edging Millville's Jill Smaniotto with a 56.67 time.

Egg Harbor Township's Holly Berenotto easily posted wins in each of the sprint events, winning the 50 freestyle in 24.03 and the 100 freestyle in 52.42.

Maureen McCotter of Biship Eustace turned in two first-place performances as well. McCotter reached the wall first in the 200 freestyle, clocking a 1:52.14, and she also took the top spot in the 500 freestyle (4:55.01).
