Nebraska Picks Up Verbal Commitment from YMCA National Finalist Sydney McCracken
NEW COMMIT: Breaststroker and IMer Sydney McCracken of Kennett Square, Pa. has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Nebraska beginning in the fall of 2021.
She will join Maia Hall, Beatriz Padron, JoJo Randby, and Madi Lloyd on campus as members of the Huskers’ class of 2025.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Nebraska! A huge thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for all of the amazing support! I can’t wait to be a Husker!! GO BIG RED! ❤️?”
A Futures qualifier, McCracken does her club swimming with Kennett Area YMCA and raced three events at YMCA Nationals in April 2019. Last summer, she placed 14th in the 50m breast and 24th in the 100m breast at YMCA LCM Nationals.
Her best times include:
- 100 breast – 1:03.03
- 200 breast – 2:24.77
- 200 IM – 2:05.26
- 50 free – 24.81
- 100 free – 53.11
Also competing for Kennett High School, McCracken is a three-time Pennsylvania 3A State Championship finalist. She was the runner-up in the 100 breast and placed 15th in the 200 IM as a junior while taking 16th and 26th, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.
McCracken will add valuable breaststroke depth to the Huskers’ lineup next fall as she would’ve ranked in the top-5 of their lineup last season. She will be joining a training group that will include Morgan Heasty, Allison Henry, Catie Pentlarge, and Ella Stein.
