Nebraska High School State Championships

LINCOLN, Nebraska, March 5. MILLARD West scored 293 points to win the state title at the Nebraska High School State Championships. Omaha Marian and Omaha Duchesne Academy followed with scores of 239 and 186 respectively. On the boys’ side, Omaha Creighton Prep took first (369), while Lincoln East placed second (231) and Lincoln Southeast finished third (113.5).

Girls Results
Omaha Marian’s Kyra Lindholm, Afton Robertson, Autumn Baldwin, and Alexis Fee won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:47.35. Robertson also won the 100 breaststroke (1:03.69).

Kristine Kunkel (Omaha Marian) won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:08.12. She also touched out Elizabeth McGinn (Millard West) in the 200 freestyle by .12 seconds for a first-place finish (1:53.55).

Senior Bianca Christensen (Millard West) won the 100 backstroke (57.81). She teamed up with McGinn, Shannon Guy, and Emma O’Connell for a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.61). Guy also won the 100 butterfly (55.71).

Lincoln Southeast’s Lilly Hinrichs took first in the diving competition with a score of 449.80. Amy Herman of Lincoln Southwest and Christina Eltiste of Omaha Westside followed with scores of 404.75 and 397.05 respectively.

Anna Howard combined with Christensen, O’Connell, and McGinn for a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:29.49). O’Connell also won the individual 100 freestyle (51.79).

Boys Results
Omaha Creighton Prep won all three relays. Andre Wilt, Stephen Hansen, Alexander Jacobsen, and Benjamin Slovek tied with Lincoln East’s Nicholas Caruso, Ryan Bubb, Ethan Ebito, and Jackson Carter in the 200 medley relay. Both teams set the state record with a time of 1:35.29. Caruso also won the 100 backstroke (52.78).

Senior William Kunkel (Omaha Creighton Prep) set a state record in the 100 freestyle (45.32). The 1996 record was held by Omaha Creighton Prep alum, Coley Stickels. Kunkel also won the 200 freestyle (1:39.92).

Kunkel’s teammate, William Schuermann, won the 200 IM (1:52.25) and set a state record in the 500 freestyle (4:34.76). The 1991 state record was held by Doug Humphrey of Omaha Westside. Schuermann also teamed up with Kunkel, Jacobsen, and Slovek to set a state record in the 200 freestyle relay (1:24.15).

Bubb won the 50 freestyle (20.66). He also set a state record in the 100 butterfly with a prelim time of 48.92. The 1983 state record (49.34) was held by David Lammel of Millard South.

Bradley Schoreit (Millard North) won the diving competition (438.65). Addison Boschult (Ralston/Omaha Gross) placed second (397.90) and Travis Reeves (Norfolk) took third (393.50).

Omaha Creighton Prep closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:05.93). The group of Schuermann, Thomas Gasnick, Patrick Militti, and Kunkel surpassed the 1992 state record (3:08.55) set by Ralston’s PJ Wiseman, Kenny Ochsner, Jake Woodard, and Derek Ahl.
