NEW COMMIT: Providence College has gained a new verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from Ashburn, Va. butterflyer and freestyler Katie Winklosky.

Winklosky swims year-round with Nation’s Capital Swim Club and capped off her summer long course season by racing five events at NCSAs after finaling in the 100m fly at Potomac Valley LCM Seniors. Last winter, she was the 500 free runner-up at Potomac Valley SCY Seniors and notched a lifetime best at NCSAs.

Also competing for Briar Woods High School, Winklosky is a five-time Virginia 5A State Championship finalist. She finished ninth in the 200 free and 11th in the 100 fly as a junior while racing to 10th and 12th, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Providence College. Thank you to my family, friends, teammates, and coaches for everything over the years! Go friars!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 57.56
  • 200 fly – 2:08.75
  • 200 free – 1:54.63
  • 500 free – 5:10.64

Winklosky will add valuable depth to the Friars’ fly and free training group when she arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024. She would’ve placed in the B-final of the 100 fly at the 2019 Big East Championships and is just on the brink of scoring range in her other top events.
