NCAA Div. III: Denison Takes Veale Classic, Case Western Second

Feb. 25. THE Case Western Reserve men’s swim team
hosted the first annual Veale Classic this past Saturday at the Veale Center at CWU. Denison University won the classic with 585 points. Host Case Western was second among the 11 participating teams with 505 points.

Event winners for the Case Western Spartans included:

the 200 yard freestyle relay team of freshman Kevin
Day (Cuyahoga Falls, OH), freshman Chris Cook (Worthington, OH), senior Jeffrey Erickson (Ft. Wayne, IN), and freshman Nate Davis (Broadview Hts., OH) with a time of 1:25.72;

the 200 yard medley relay team of senior Jeffrey Erickson, sophomore Andrew Detwiler (Ft. Atkinson, WI), senior Mike Iacchei (Bel Air, MD), and freshman Kevin Day with a time of 1:38.19;

senior John Gellin (Buffalo NY) in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 52.70;

freshman Nate Davis in the 200 yard freestyle with a NCAA “B” cut time of 1:43.11;

freshman John Keltz (Bradford PA) in the 200 yard
breaststroke with a time of 2:13.63.

The next meet on the Div. III men's schedule is the NCAA Championships March 20-22.

Denison also emerged victorious in the women's meet with a score of 580 points, tops among the eight participating teams. Case Western Reserve finished second with a score of 380.

Event winners for the Spartans included:

the 200 yard freestyle relay team of freshman Elaine Hillenmeyer (Carmel, IN), senor Kelly Alexander (Huntsville, AL), sophomore Kristen Prijatel (Mentor, OH), and senior Veronica Luri (Brecksville, OH) with a NCAA “B” cut time of 1:38.93;

sophomore Alicia Kendig (Lancaster, PA) in the 200 yard IM with a NCAA “B” cut time of 2:12.16.

The next meet for the Div. III women is the NCAA Championships, March 13-15.
