NCAA Div. II: Delta State Caps Successful Weekend

CLEVELAND, Miss., November 10. THE Delta State University men and women's swimming and diving teams had successful weekends. The Lady Statesmen went 3-1 with wins over Centenary (95-11), Henderson State (64-48) and Arkansas-Little Rock (64-48) but lost to conference rival Ouachita Baptist (66-47).

The Statesmen, 3-0, defeated Ouachita Baptist(66-47), Centenary (101-9) and Henderson State (123-118).On Friday, the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen each won five events. Tripp Davis (10:00.79) won the 1000-Freestyle and was followed by Jared Woodford(10:04:00) and Matt Downs (10:38.39). Sean Spiegel scored 244.50 points to win the one-meter diving and later scored 242.40 for the win in the three-meter diving. Cagri Sapmaz won the 200 Back.

Davis(4:52.33) and Woodford (4:56.12) finished first and second in the 500-Freestyle. Nilay Aydin swam to victory in the 200-Freestyle (1:58.84).

Devin Presley posted her first wins of the year in the one-meter (206,35) and three-meter diving (190.40).

Kasey Perkins claimed the 200-Breaststroke (2:30.85). The team of Aydin, Cid Rebecca, Dottie Stovall and Kristine Balius won the 400-Freestyle Relay (3:45.52).

Delta State claimed nine men's events and four women's events on Saturday. Davis (10:03.26) edged out Woodford (10:03.69) for another in the 1000-Freestyle. Derrick McDonnell won the 200-Freestyle (1:48.07).

Spiegel (255.20) and Patrick Krebs (229.03) took first and second in the one-meter diving. Krebs (245.80) rebounded to edge out Spiegel (228.50) in the three-meter diving. Tyler Godwin won the 200-Butterfly (1:59.78).

Robby Haney (48.01) edged out OB's Sintjago Rinaldo by .04 to win the 100-Freestyle. Davis (4:51.41) and Woodford (4:54.85) kept their consistency with another one-two finish in the 500-Freestyle. Onurkan Guvensel won the 200-breast (2:15.21).

Kasey Perkins highlighted the women's four event winners with a team record in the 200-Breaststroke. In the distance swims, Aydin won the 500-Freestyle (5:22.24) and Balius (11:20.96) claimed the 1000-Freestyle. Aydin, Rebecca, Stovall and Balius teamed up to win the 400-Freestyle Relay (3:47.43).
