NCAA Div. I Women: Utah Drops a Close One to Oregon State

SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 10. THE University of Utah women’s swimming and diving team fell to Oregon State on Friday night. The Beavers knocked off the Utes by a score of 148-134. The loss dropped Utah’s record to 7-5 overall.

There was no men's meet as Oregon State killed off its men's swimming program several years ago.

Utah won 7 of 16 events but came up just short of getting the victory. Leading the way for Utah was Neringa Statkeviciute who won three events. Statkeviciute won the 50 free (24.20), 100 free (52.13) and was on the 400 free relay team (3:33.99). Loren Sweny who was also on the winning 400 free relay team added a victory in the 200 free (1:54.14).

The Utes will swim another home meet Saturday, January 11, at 1:00 P.M.. against nationally ranked Washington at the Ute Natatorium. Both the men and women will be in action against the Huskies.
