NEW COMMIT: Sprinter Katie Mack, who also has an impressive resume in backstroke and IM, has verbally committed to NC State. The Ashburn, Va. native will make the move to Raleigh next fall as a member of the class of 2023.

Mack swims year-round with Nation’s Capital under head coach Jeremy Linn and owns the Junior National or better standard in eight events which includes four U.S. Open cuts. She recorded a pair of best times at Nationals this summer with a 31st-place finish in the 200m back. She won the 100m back at Potomac Valley Seniors in July and was a four-time finalist at NCSAs in March. At Nationals last winter, Mack had three finals appearances with her highest finish being a 13th-place showing in the 200 IM. At 2017 Summer NCSAs, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 50 and 100 free.

She told Swimming World:

“I fell in love with NC State after watching the team compete a few years back.  I couldn’t help but notice the energy, excitement, and support the swimmers and coaches had for one another.  I knew this was the program for me.  Very excited to be part of the Wolfpack women’s team!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 22.60
  • 100 free – 49.06
  • 200 free – 1:47.93
  • 100 back – 53.96
  • 200 back – 1:56.94
  • 100 fly – 54.17
  • 200 IM – 1:59.61
  • 400 IM – 4:15.16

Mack’s versatility is a huge pickup for the Wolfpack when she suits up for the 2019-20 season. She would’ve been a B-finalist in the 100 free and 400 IM while her best 50 free, 200 free, 100 fly, 200 IM and 200 back would’ve scored in the C-final at the 2018 ACC Championships in addition to her strong relay potential.
