NEW COMMIT: Atlanta, Ga. native and current high school junior Abby Pilkenton has verbally committed to NC State for the 2020-21 season and beyond.

Pilkenton, who owns six Summer Juniors standards, swims year-round with Dynamo Swim Club and most recently competed at the Southern Premier Invitational where her highest finish was a fourth-place showing in the 100 free. She finished 15th in the 100 free and 17th in the 200 free at Juniors East in December and capped off her long course season with a gold medal in the 400m free at Cary Futures this past summer.

Also competing for Holy Innocents Episcopal High School, Pilkenton is a six-time Georgia 1-5A State Championship finalist. She won the 100/200 free combo during both her sophomore and junior seasons after finishing third and fourth, respectively, in those events during her rookie campaign. She has also earned both NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to join such an amazing team and I am so blessed to have this opportunity! I wouldn’t be where I am today without my coaches, friends, and family who have support me along the way. I can’t wait to join the team in the fall of 2020 and of course go pack!!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.75
  • 100 free – 49.90
  • 200 free – 1:47.04
  • 500 free – 4:55.91
  • 200 IM – 2:04.15
  • 400 IM – 4:21.59
  • 100 fly – 55.81

Pilkenton will add valuable depth to an already talented Wolfpack sprint group when she arrives in Raleigh in the fall of 2020. She’ll have two years of overlap with Kylee Alons and Sophie Hansson and would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 free at the 2019 ACC Championships.
