NC State Collects Pair of 2020 In-State Verbals from Michael Moore, Austin Winchester

NEW COMMITS: NC State has earned a pair of in-state verbal commitments for the 2020-21 season from Cary’s Michael Moore and Wilmington’s Austin Winchester.

Moore and Winchester will join Nick Lawson, James Plage and Luke Miller as members of the Wolfpack’s class of 2024.

Moore, who does his club swimming with Marlins of Raleigh, owns four Winter Junior standards and recently won the 400 IM at Greensboro Speedo Sectionals where he recorded five additional top-8 finishes. He achieved 100% best times at Juniors East in December and capped off his long course season by finishing eighth in the 200m back at Cary Futures this past summer.

Also competing for Green Hope High School, Moore is a four-time North Carolina 4A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished fourth in the 200 IM and ninth in the 500 free as a junior after placing 13th and 11th, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season. Moore is no stranger to the Wolfpack family, as his older sisters Hannah Moore ’18 competed for NC State and Kate Moore ’21 is currently on the team.

He told Swimming World:

“I am extremely honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue swimming and studying at North Carolina State University. The energy, dedication, and tradition of the team and coaching staff is like no other. I would like to thank all of my teammates throughout my years of swimming, my friends & family, and all the coaches who have pushed me to be my best. I’m excited to join my sisters Hannah and Kate, my former Marlins of Raleigh teammates, as well as some other truly amazing swimmers. GO PACK!!!!”

200 IM – 1:51.69
200 back – 1:48.86
100 back – 50.51
500 free – 4:32.41
1000 free – 9:22.13

Austin Winchester

Winchester swims year-round with the Waves of Wilmington, Inc. and owns a trio of Winter Junior cuts. He most recently raced at the NC SCY Senior Championships where he won the 500/1650 free combo and took third in the 200 free after recording a lifetime best at Juniors East in December. At Cary Futures this past summer, he won both the 800m and 1500m free and notched six best times at Greensboro Speedo Sectionals last March.

He told Swimming World:
