NBAC’s Hoff and Kalisz Sink Teeth into NAG Records

ANNAPOLIS, Md., March 22. THE North Baltimore Aquatic Club, long known for its age-group excellence, was at it again over the weekend, as a pair of NBAC athletes took down three national age-group records while competing at the Maryland Swimming State Championships.

One week after Teresa Crippen set a 13-and-14 age group record in the 200-yard backstroke, Courtney Kalisz took the standard to new lows. Kalisz initially posted a time of 1:56.87 in the preliminaries and then lowered her record to 1:56.75 during the championship finals. Crippen, of the Germantown Academy Aquatic Club, had gone 1:56.89 to break Beth Botsford’s mark from 1996.

Meanwhile, Katie Hoff notched a 15-and-16 age group record in the 100-yard butterfly when she zoomed to a clocking of 52.61. An Olympian in the 200 and 400 individual medley events, Hoff broke the 1998 record of Natalie Coughlin. The former mark stood at 52.91.
