Navy Gets Verbal Commitment from Georgia State Champ Sarah Sorensen

NEW COMMIT: Sarah Sorensen has verbally committed to swim for the United States Naval Academy beginning next fall. Sorensen is a freestyler and backstroker for Marietta, Georgia’s Stingrays.

She’s a senior at Pope High School where she is a team captain. Sorensen is the team’s record holder in the 50 and 100 freestyle as well as the 100 backstroke. She’s also been instrumental in relay success and is a member of the team’s 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay records. Sorensen won the 100 backstroke at the 2017 Georgia 6&7A high school state championships after earning the top spot in prelims.

Sorensen told Swimming World,

“Very excited to announce that I have committed to swim at the United States Naval Academy! I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve my country and join such an amazing team! GO NAVY BEAT ARMY!!”

She’ll be a big point scorer for the defending Patriot League Champions. At last year’s conference meet Sorensen would have been fourth in the 100 backstroke, just out touching Navy’s highest finisher, sophomore Ally Warnitmont. She would have also been seventh in the 200 backstroke. Warnimont was second (1:59.29) in that event. Sorensen also adds a B final swim in the 50 freestyle to her potential conference line up. With her sprint skills, Sorensen looks to walk in the door as a relay piece for Navy.
