By Mark Gill

TEMPE, Arizona, October 8. THE Tempe Town Lake Swim was the second race of a two-race series held at Tempe Town Lake in downtown Tempe, Arizona. The event, hosted by DCB Extreme Adventures, attracted 81 participants from all over the country. Swimmers came from Florida, Massachusetts, Alaska and Hawaii as well as states nearby.

Nathan Moore of Scottsdale, AZ was the overall winner of the mile-plus race with a time of 21:35. Moore broke from the field early in the race and never looked back, building almost a two minute lead over Kurt Dickson, the next closest finisher. Among men, the top five finishers were:

Nathan Moore 21:35
Kurt Dickson 23.10
Randy Nutt 24:22
Jim Stites 24:49
Tim Morse 25:10

Graham Johnston of Texas was the oldest finisher in the race at age 72. He turned in a swift 27:41 beating the majority of the other swimmers in the race.

Among the women, Kathi Lindstrom edged a group of younger women in a close finish. Only 8 seconds separated the top four. Following Lindstrom was Paula Pollard, Nicole Lindstrom (no relation to Kathi) and Mary Alice Rasmuson.

In a mother–daughter tag team, the title for the Tempe swim has stayed in the family. The first race of the series, held in June, was won by Meghan Bullock, the daughter of Kathi Lindstrom. The top five finishers were:

Kathi Lindstrom 25:20
Paula Pollard 25:23
Nicole Lindstrom 25:28
Mary Alice Rasmuson 25:28
Karen West 26:29

After the success of this first year, DCB Extreme Adventures has announced that in 2004, the series will expand to add a third race. For more information go to www.dcbadventures.com
