NEW COMMIT: American University has earned their first verbal commitment for the class of 2023 from Raleigh, North Carolina’s Ashlyn Walton.

Walton swims year-round with Marlins of Raleigh and concluded her successful summer season with a fourth-place finish in the 800m free at the Southern Zone Age Group Championships and a pair of best times at NC LCM Seniors. She recorded four lifetime bests at NC SCY Seniors in March with her highest finish being a 13th-place showing in the mile. Also swimming for Leesville Road High School, Walton swam to 12th place in the 500 free at the North Carolina 4A State Championships during her junior season.

She told Swimming World:

“So excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academics and athletics DI at American University! HUGE thanks to my parents, friends, and coaches for getting me here. Can’t wait to be an American Eagle!”

Her best times include:

  • 500 free – 5:10.30
  • 1000 free – 10:28.07
  • 1650 free – 17:40.46
  • 200 fly – 2:08.81

Walton will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Eagles at the start of the 2019-20 season. Her fastest 500 free and mile time would’ve ranked second on American’s lineup last season and she’ll have two years of overlap with top returning distance swimmer Ellie Kight.
