By Hideki Mochizuki

CHIBA Japan, February 29. TOMOMI MORITA, the sixth place finisher in the men's 100m backstoke at the Barcelona World Championships last July recorded a short course Japanese record of 52.35 seconds today at the Chiba Prefectural Junior Meet in Chiba.

The previous record was 52.51, swum by Morita at the World Cup in Stockholm last January.

"I will definitely beat the Japanese (long course) record of 54.54 and hopefully go under 54 seconds," the 19 year-old Morita told SwimInfo after the race.

Last December, at the US Open, Lenny Krayzelburg cited Morita as "a guy to be watched out for" at the Athens Games.
