Montana State Champion A.J. Popp Verbally Commits to Northern Colorado
NEW COMMIT: The University of Northern Colorado has earned their first verbal commitment for the fall of 2019 from Kalispell, Montana’s A.J. Popp.
Popp does her club swimming with Kalispell Aquatic Team and owns the Winter Juniors standard in the 200 back. She placed eighth in the 200m back at Santa Clara Futures over the summer and was a six-time champion at the Montana LCM Championships. She recorded a pair of best times at Juniors West and won five events at Montana SCY Championships last winter.
Also representing Glacier High School, Popp is four-time Montana State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 200 free and was the 100 free runner-up as a junior after placing third in the 500 free and fourth in the 200 IM as a freshman.
She told Swimming World:
“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at the University of Northern Colorado! Thank you to my teammates and family who have helped me along the way. GO BEARS!!!”
Her best times include:
- 100 back – 56.67
- 200 back – 1:59.84
- 100 fly – 57.22
- 200 free – 1:52.02
When she suits up for the Bears as a member of the class of 2023, Popp will make an immediate impact: she would’ve scored in the A-final of the 200 back and the B-final of the 100 back at the 2018 WAC Championships.
