Missouri State Gets Verbals From FAST Teammates Karli Sewell, Hannah Amelung

NEW COMMIT: Missouri State University has gained two in-state verbal commitments for the fall of 2019 from Hannah Ambling and Karli Sewell, who both swim for Flyers Aquatic Swim Team for Morgan Dodge.

Both swimmers will make an immediate impact in their respective events when they suit up for the Bears as members of the class of 2023. Under head coach Dave Collins, Missouri State clinched their 14th Missouri Valley Conference championship title in program history last season.

A native of Arcadia, Amelung raced in four events at NCSAs after recording five lifetime bests with an 11th-place showing in the 50m free at Jenks Speedo Sectionals this summer. She earned the bronze in both the 50 free and 100 free at Ozark Seniors in February and was a four-time ISCA Junior National finalist in March after notching a best time at Columbia Sectionals last winter.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to announce my commitment to Missouri State University! I chose Missouri State because the teams dynamic, coaching staff and academics could not be beat! I can’t wait to call Springfield my new home! Bear up!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 24.04
  • 100 free – 52.59
  • 100 back – 57.13

Karli Sewell

Hailing from St. Louis, Sewell is a breaststroker who recorded two best times at NCSAs this summer after placing fourth in the 200m breast at the Ozark LCM Championships. She won the 200 breast at Ozarks in February and was a three-time finalist at Columbia Speedo Sectionals in March. Sewell also competed in the 100 breast at the Missouri State Championships for Lindbergh High School as a junior.

She told Swimming World:

“I chose Missouri state because everyone is so helpful & welcoming! Missouri State has a great reputation for being a big university with a home town feel. I can’t wait to be a bear!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:06.46
  • 200 breast – 2:21.88
  • 200 IM – 2:13.85
