NEW COMMIT: Fenton, Mo. native Tyler Lewis has announced his intention to stay in-state and swim for Missouri State University as a member of the class of 2023.

Lewis does his club swimming with Parkway Swim Club and capped off a successful summer with a sixth-place showing in the 400m IM at Jenks Speedo Sectionals and a lifetime best in every event he swam at NCSA Championships. He was a six-time Ozark Senior Championship finalist which included a runner-up finish in the 400 IM last March.

Also representing Lindbergh High School, Lewis has qualified for three finals throughout his career at MSHSAA State Championships. He finished third in the 100 back and fifth in the 200 IM during his junior season.

He told Swimming World:

“I chose Missouri State because I was impressed with the University’s IT department and the amazing coaching staff as well as the team atmosphere. GO BEARS!!!!!”

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:53.17
  • 400 IM – 4:03.90
  • 200 breast – 2:07.04
  • 200 fly – 1:54.40
  • 100 back – 52.40

Lewis will be a valuable addition to the Bears’ roster when he arrives on campus for the 2019-20 season following the graduation of their top IMers. He has made significant time drops each season and will join a program that won their 20th MAC Championship crown last season under head coach Dave Collins.

Lewis’ coach, Jon David Williford, said:

“Tyler had a great summer  long course with big improvements in IM and breaststroke, 400 IM from 4:44 to 4:35, and 200 breaststroke from 2:31 to 2:24. I believe he has a lot of potential for continued growth and development and I know Missouri State coaching staff will guide him to achieve it.”
