NEW COMMIT: The Virginia Tech Hokies have added another commitment to the class of 2023, this time from St. Louis, Missouri native Karisa Franz.

Franz swims year-round with Parkway Swim Club and owns a pair of Winter Junior cuts with the U.S. Open standard in the 100 fly. She concluded her long course season with a fifth-place finish in the 100m fly at NCSAs after taking second in the 50m fly at Jenks Sectionals. She recorded two best times at Juniors West last winter where she raced to 11th in the 100 fly and won that event at Columbia Sectionals in March. Also competing for Cor Jesu Academy, Franz is a four-time Missouri State Championship finalist. She won the 100 fly and 100 back as a junior after winning the former and placing fourth in the 200 IM during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I chose Virginia Tech because of their amazing coaching staff and team. VT is doing great things in and out of the water. I am super excited to become a Hokie!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 53.70
  • 200 fly – 2:00.93
  • 100 back – 56.01
  • 100 free – 51.63
  • 200 IM – 2:04.98
  • 400 IM – 4:28.49

When she suits up for the Hokies in the fall of 2019, Franz will add valuable depth to their fly group that includes Joelle Vereb and Kayla Purcell. She would’ve scored in the C-final of both butterfly distances at the 2018 ACC Championships, making an immediate impact for Virginia Tech.
