Minnetonka’s Raegan Willis Verbally Commits to Southern Methodist

NEW COMMIT: Southern Methodist has earned a new verbal commitment from Raegen Willis, the Plymouth, Minn. native who will join the Mustangs as part of the class of 2023.

Willis does her club swimming with Minnetonka Swim Club under head coach Erich Welton. At the MN Senior LCM Championships in July, she finaled in the 100m back and posted a pair of best times at the Aquajets Summer Invite. She was a two-time ISCA Junior finalist and raced in two events at the MN Senior Championships in March.

Willis is five-time MSHSL Class 2A State Championship finalist for Minnetonka High School. As a junior, she finished seventh in the 100 fly and eighth in the 100 back; she placed 16th and eighth in those respective events during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Southern Methodist University. Between the multitude of warm welcomes and the importance placed on studies, I could tell SMU was the place for me. 100 back – 57.05
200 back – 2:07.10
100 back – 56.52
50 free – 24.71
100 free – 52.94

Southern Methodist finished fourth in the team standings at last season’s American Conference Championships. When Willis arrives on campus for the 2019-20 season, she’ll join a backstroke training group with Felicity Passon and a fly squad led by Erin Trahan.
