Minnesota Lands Three 2021 Verbals from Hannah Cornish, Oksana Chaput, Eliot Kennedy

NEW COMMITS: The University of Minnesota has recently received three verbal commitments for the fall of 2021 as the swimmers announced their commitments via CollegeSwimmingHannah CornishOksana Chaput, and Eliot Kennedy will suit up for the Golden Gophers as members of the class of 2025.

HANNAH CORNISH

Hailing from Port Perry, Ontario, Cornish competes for Uxbridge Swim Club and most recently finaled in the 50m free at the Canadian Junior Championships this past summer after earning bronze in the 50m free/50m fly at the Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships in April. She finished 16th in the 50m free at Canadian Trials and earned three gold medals at the 2019 Spring Ontario Swimming Championships.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

OKSANA CHAPUT

A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Chaput swims year-round with Manta Swim Club and has also represented Canada internationally. She most recently competed at the Canadian Swimming Championships where she placed sixth in the 50m/200m free and seventh in the 100m free/100m fly. She recorded four best times at the Canadian Junior Championships in July and raced to 20th in the 200m free and 50m fly at Canadian Trials in April.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the University of Minnesota! The moment I stepped on campus and met the coaches and the team, I knew this was a perfect fit for me! I would like to thank my friends, family and coaches for all their love and support. I’m excited to represent the University of Minnesota and be part of a history of academic and swimming success! Go Gophers! #SkiUMah”

ELIOT KENNEDY

Kennedy, a native of Bloomington, Ill., does her club swimming with Waves Bloomington/Normal Y Swim Team and owns a U.S. Open cut and two Summer Juniors standards. A talented distance freestyler, she took seventh in the 800m free and 15th in the 1500m free at Junior Nationals this past summer and was the runner-up in those events at Illinois LCM Seniors. Last winter, the two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished eighth in the mile at Juniors West before going on to earn silver in the 500 free and mile at Illinois SCY Seniors.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Minnesota!!! I want to thank my family, friends, and my Coach, Charlie Yourd, for their support throughout this process. Cannot wait to be a golden gopher!!”
