NEW COMMIT: Backstroker Nathan Griffin of Parker, Colo., has selected the University of Minnesota for his college career and will suit up for the Golden Gophers in the fall of 2021.

Griffin, who owns a pair of Summer Juniors cuts, does his club swimming with the University of Denver Hilltoppers and earned a best time at Junior Nationals this past summer after a strong showing at Colorado LCM Seniors. Last winter, he notched 100% lifetime bests at Federal Way Sectionals where his highest finish was a sixth-place showing in the 200 back.

A current junior at Ponderosa High School, Griffin is a three-time Colorado 5A State Championship finalist. He placed third in the 100 back and 15th in the 50 free during his sophomore season while finishing 15th in the former event as a freshman.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“The team and coaches are the most incredible people I have ever had the good fortune of meeting. The facilities and academics are also top notch!”

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 23.51
  • 100 back – 49.48
  • 200 back – 1:48.48
  • 50 free – 22.13

Griffin will add valuable backstroke depth to the Golden Gophers’ lineup when he arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024. He has made major improvements over the past two seasons, dropping six seconds in the 100 back and 11 seconds in the 200 back, and he still has 1.5 years of club swimming to go.
