Michigan Keeps Rolling With Commitment From Triangle’s Hannah Moore

CARY, North Carolina, September 30. JUST a day after picking up a commitment from No. 24 Clara Smiddy, Michigan head coach Mike Bottom added Triangle Area’s Hannah Moore to his impressive Class of 2014 haul.

Moore, who is ranked 19th in the Class of 2014 by CollegeSwimming.com, is the third Best in State recruit for Bottom this year. Smiddy ranks as the top swimmer in the State of Florida, while No. 4 Gillian Ryan of NBAC is the best ranked swimmer out of Pennsylvania with her prep affiliation still being the Kutztown Area Senior High School. Moore, meanwhile, is the best swimmer out of North Carolina.

“Mike Bottom is a phenomenal coach and the school is exactly the kind of university I need to grow academically,” Moore said. “I can’t wait to swim with such an amazing program!”

Along with Smiddy, Bottom is going to have a dynamic tandem in the backstroke event for years to come. Moore, who represents Green Hope High out of Cary, N.C., is a backstroke threat with strong times in both the short course and long course formats.

Her best year thus far was in 2012, with Moore’s best time being a 1:54.46 in the 200-yard backstroke from the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior Nationals, while she also turned in a swift 2:13.02 in the 200-meter back at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials. However, she still has a few more months this year to top those times.

In the shorter distance backstroke, Moore owns a 53.91 in the 100-yard back from 2012 Juniors and a 1:03.25 in the 100-meter back from Trials as well. Moore can also extend into the IMs with some strong times coming into her senior year. She’s posted a 2:18.22 in the 200-meter IM as well as a 4:49.63 in the 400-meter IM.
