Michael Jensen Wins Two Individual Events at Pennsylvania Division AAA High School State Championships

LEWISBURG–Michael Jensen of Upper Dublin won two individual events and set a new state record at Pennsylvania’s Division AAA High School State Championships.

The Hershey women won the meet with 262 points. North Allegheny finished close behind with 257.5 points. North Penn rounded out the top three with 168.

Hershey’s Allie Raab finished first in the 200 free with a 1:48.01. Penn ridge’s Morgan Scott touched close behind with a 1:48.26. Greater Latrobe’s Monica Sowinski was third with 1:48.95.

Maddie Hart of Haverford out-touched Pennridge’s Brittany Weiss in the 100 fly to claim the gold. Hart finished with a 54.14 while Weiss touched with a 54.45 for second. Radnor’s Julia Cullen was third with a 55.06.

Maria Lohman of Chartier Valley won the women’s diving with 508.35 points. North Penn’s Marie Yacopino grabbed a close second with 506.05.

Parkland’s Siena Salvaggio won the 100 free with a 49.61. Scott finished second with a 49.86. North Allegheny’s Morgan Soulia rounded out the top three with a 50.96.

Norwin’s Kathryn Painter swept the competition in the 500 free finishing seven seconds ahead of the competition with a 4:50.49.

Hershey’s Vivi Tafuto and Allie Raab claimed first and second in the 100 breaststroke respectively. Tafuto touched with a 1:00.74 with Raab right behind her at 1:00.84.

2015 Pennsylvania Girls High School Division AAA State Championships – Results

La Salle College swept the competition on the men’s side with a whopping 302 points. Upper St. Clair was second with 221 and North Allegheny finished third with 183.

Upper St Clair began the meet with a record-breaking 200 medley relay. The relay team of Ryan Dudzinski, Kevin Liu, Fynn Minuth and Braedon Wong set a new Pennsylvania state record of 1:29.74. La Salle finished second with a time of 1:30.97, while North Penn took third with 1:32.18.

Upper Dublin’s Michael Jensen won the 200 free with a 1:35.31 setting a new Pennsylvania state record. Jensen’s time replaces Matthew Belecanech’s 2009 time of 1:36.05. La Salle College’s Jake Sannem claimed second with a 1:37.56, while North Hills’ Brian Lovasik claimed third with a 1:37.75.

Greg Brocato of La Salle College won the 50 free with a time of 20.27. Wyoming Valley’s Ed Zawatski (20.54) and Wissahickon’s Danny Knoll (20.70) finished close behind.

Momentum continued into the 100 fly with Upper St. Clair’s Ryan Dudzinski winning with a new state record. The senior replaced his own 2014 record of 47.44 with 47.26. Mt. Lebanon’s Andrei Mihailescu finished second with 48.91, while Conestoga’s Brian McKenrick was third with a 49.94.

La Salle College and Upper St Clair raced to a quick finish in the 200 free relay. The relay team of Nicholas Stachel, Vincent Everman, Jake Sannem and Kyle Shurmur of La Salle out-touched Upper St Clair with a 1:22.70 to grab first. Upper St Clair’s Dudzinski, Tomos Williams, Patrick Lersch and Kevin Liu grabbed second with a 1:22.99. Hershey was third with a 1:23.45.

Jensen won his second individual of the day in the 100 free. The junior posted a time of 43.29 finishing .62 seconds ahead of La Salle College’s Greg Brocato’s 43.91.

The top three finishers in the 100 breaststroke touched within .42 seconds of each other. North Penn’s Thanas Kountroubis claimed the gold with a 55.16. Upper Dublin’s Wyatt Amdor (55.26) and North Allegheny’s Casey Melzer (55.58) finished close behind.
