Micah Lawrence Snags Top 200 Breaststroke Seed

In London Micah Lawrence was sixth in the 200 breaststroke. The 25 year old swam a 2:26.27 for the top seed this morning in Omaha.

Texas A&M’s Bethany Galat had an excellent back half and took the second seed in 2:26.72. That was nearly a three second drop. Annie Lazor was third in 2:27.48.

With an Olympic ticket already booked, Lilly King returns to semifinals fourth in the 200 breaststroke. The short course American record holder touched in 2:27.55. She led the way at the 100 in 1:10.24.

After finishing third in the 100, Molly Hannis is shooting for a spot in the 200. This morning she clocked a 2:27.62 for the fifth seed. 2012 Olympian Breeja Larson will return sixth in 2:27.65.

Louisville’s Andee Cottrell (2:27.67) and Tuscon Ford’s Emma Schoettmer (2:28.01) also earned second swims.

2015 national champion Laura Sogar touched in 2:28.15, for the ninth spot. Emma Reaney followed in 2:28.57.

Olivia Anderson was the first swimmer to crack the 2:30 barrier and led the way heading into the circle seeded heats with her 2:28.60. That time held up for 11th overall.

Sarah Henry came back from her tough 400 IM finals swim to take the 12th seed in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:28.74.

Fifteen year old Zoe Bartel touched in 2:28.94 in heat ten and also made it back in 13th. Taylor Vargo (2:29.98) will be 14th.

Melanie Margalis has had an impressive meet, and this morning she just slipped into semifinals with a 15th place 2:29.03. Emily Escobedo swam a 2:29.12 for the final spot.

Katie Meili entered the event with a season’s best, world’s 13th 2:23.69. Today she touched in 2:30.66, out of the semifinals.
