Mercer Island Wins Two Relays, Takes 3A Washington State Meet

FEDERAL WAY, Washington, March 7. MERCER Island won two relays on its way to claiming the state title in the Washington 3A Men's State High School Championship meet.
The foursome of Kyle Schaeffer, Ian Fisk, Jeff Benca and Murray Longbotham shaved two seconds off of their preliminary time in the 200 freestyle relay to give Mercer Island its first win of the meet. Alexander Hoff, Fisk, Tyler Benster and Longbotham combined forces at the end of the meet to win the 400 freestyle relay in a 3:14.47 time.
Camas senior Keenan Natyzak bested the 200 freestyle final heat with a winning time of 1:41.95. He smoked the final heat of the 100 butterfly, stopping the clock in 50.48.
Russ Mahan, a Totems senior, blasted through the 50 freestyle, winning with a 20.78 time. Mahan and Kennedy junior Kevin Munsch battled for the 100 breaststroke crown. Mahan touched Munsch out in the end with a first-place time of 55.91.
Olaf Olsen, a Bainbridge senior, won the diving competition with a 448.75 score. Beau Riebe of Mercer Island took second (391.20) and Chris Reid of West Valley took third (362.65).
