Massachusetts Girls Division 1, 2 High School State Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts, February 24. GARDNER and Wayland walked away with state titles at the Massachusetts Girls High School State Championships. At the Division 1 meet, Gardner tallied 207 points for first followed by Lincoln-Sudbury Regional (139.50) and Minnechaug Regional (113.50). Wayland won the Division 2 meet with 223 points while Weston took second (202) and Marblehead placed third (115).

Division 1 Results
Gardner won two of three relays. Taylor Strachan, Sarah Robertson, Jane Ehret, and Kati Cornetta won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:50.78. Strachan and Ehret had individual wins in the 100 butterfly (56.29) and the 200 IM (2:09.04), respectively.

Barnstable's Anna Cavanaugh was a dual event winner in the 200 (1:55.01) and 100 (52.62) freestyles.

Sloane Brazina (Concord-Carlisle Regional) won the diving competition with a score of 507.70. Katie Feng (Westford Academy) took second (498.00) and Taryn Urbanus (Quincy) placed third (404.80).

Minnechaug Regional won the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.90). Elizabeth Avery, Casey Tarpey, Kristen Webber, and Christiana Greco contributed to the win.

Other first-place finishers include Lauryn Brown (Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) in the 50 freestyle (24.24), Stephanie Nasson (King Philip Regional) in the 500 freestyle (5:02.95), Maggie Rosenbaum (Monument Mountain Regional) in the 100 backstroke (56.51), and Quianna Diaz-Patterson (Amherst-Pelham Regional) in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.08).

Vanessa L'Heureux teamed up with Strachan, Ehret and Cornetta for a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:39.84).

Division 2 Results
Weston won two of three relays. Maddie Pierce, Eve Jakubowski, Katie Kim, and Bianci Tocci won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:51.50. Tocci also won the 100 butterfly in 57.38.

Sophomore Sara Li (Long) was a dual event winner in the 200 (1:52.13) and 100 (51.05) freestyles.

Holyoke Catholic's Meriza Werenski had individual wins in the 200 IM (2:04.70) and the 100 breaststroke (1:05.29).

Wayland's Emily Wright, Emily Downs, Megan Pierce, and Michelle Cunningham won the 200 freestyle relay (1:38.46).

Rachel Dushman (Bedford), Jen Purks (Bedford), and Ruth Westergard (Norwell) were top finishers in the diving competition. The finished with scores of 406.10, 360.80 and 355.55, respectively.

Other first-place finishers include Kellie Pennington (Monson) in the 50 freestyle (23.82), Megan Alexander (Marblehead) in the 500 freestyle (5:01.83), and Janelle McDonald (Middleboro) in the 100 backstroke (59.72).

Cheryl Lang teamed up with Tocci, Kim and Pierce for a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:37.93).
