Massachusetts DII State Champion Tyler Roethke Verbals to In-State Boston College

NEW COMMIT: Nantucket, Mass. native Tyler Roethke has opted to stay in-state for his college career after verbally committing to Boston College as a member of the Eagles’ class of 2024.

A talented freestyler, Roethke swims year-round with Nantucket Swimming and recently recorded a pair of best times at Geneva Futures this past summer after registering five top-20 finishes at New England LCM Seniors. Last winter, he won the 500 free at New England Age Groups before going on to finish fourth in the 200 free at Ithaca Sectionals.

Also competing for Nantucket High School, Roethke is a six-time Massachusetts DII State Championship finalist. He won the 200 free and 500 free and ahcnored the winning 4×100 free relay during his junior season. As a sophomore, he became the first state champion in Nantucket High School history after winning the 100 free.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m extremely honored and proud to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Boston College in the Class of 2024! The team atmosphere, coaching staff, prestigious academics, and much more proved to me that BC is where I belong. Thank you to my family, coaches, and friends who have helped me reach my goal of competing at the Division 1 level. ROLL EAGLES”

His best times include:

  • 100 free – 46.83
  • 200 free – 1:40.34
  • 500 free – 4:35.59
  • 100 fly – 51.34
  • 200 fly – 1:52.51
  • 200 IM – 1:56.97

Roethke will add valuable depth to the Eagle’s freestyle group when he arrives in Chestnut Hill at the start of the 2020-21 season and will join a training group led by Tyler GruwellMatt Shelton and Colin O’Leary.
