NEW COMMIT: The University of Minnesota has received their third early verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Junior National qualifier Ava Yablonski of Sherborn, Mass.

She will join fellow Massachusetts native Ella Smith as well as Faith Johnson as a member of the Golden Gophers’ Class of 2026.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Minnesota! Their amazing coaching staff and team made me feel so welcomed! I’m beyond thrilled to continue my athletic and academic career while being part of the gopher community! I want to thank my friends, family, and coaches who have pushed and supported me along the way! GO GOPHERS!!!?

Yablonski does her club swimming with Metrowest YMCA Stingrays and recorded five top-8 finishes at the 18&U Winter Championships last month after placing fifth in the 100 back at New England Seniors last winter. In Summer 2019, she picked up seven lifetime bests at New England LCM Seniors before going on to compete at Geneva Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 25.53
  • 100 back – 54.44
  • 200 back – 2:01.95
  • 50 free – 23.54
  • 100 free – 52.20
  • 200 free – 1:54.44
  • 100 fly – 56.18

Currently a junior at Dover-Sherborn High School, Yablonski won the 50 free and 100 back at the Massachusetts DII State Championships as a sophomore. She also helped her team to top-6 finishes in the 4×50 medley and 4×50 free relays.

Yablonski would’ve scored in the C-final of the 100 back at the 2020 Big Ten Championships, just shy of B-final range, even with 1.5 years to go before suiting up for the Golden Gophers.
