Massachusetts Boys Division 1, 2 High School State Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts, February 24. AT the Massachusetts Boys High School State Championships, St. John's Prep and Wayland walked away with state titles. St. John's Prep won the Division 1 meet with 233 points followed by Lincoln Sudbury Regional (146) and Minnechaug Regional (119). At the Division 2 meet, Wayland tallied 154 points while Weston took second (141) and Bishop Feehan placed third (131).

Division 1 Results
St. John's Prep won all three relays. Aaron Athanas, Ryan Fortin, Ethan Brosnan, and John Bateman won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:37.90. Fortin also won the 200 IM in 1:56.15.

Sophomore Paul Hunter (Andover) was a dual event winner in the 200 (1:41.98) and 100 (46.91) freestyles.

Ryan Shelley (Lincoln Sudbury) won the diving competition (505.15). Charlie Maier (Lincoln Sudbury) and Dan Pires (Chelmsford) followed with scores of 373.50 and 368.20, respectively.

Bateman, Robert Breen, Fortin, and Brian Brennan won the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.36).

Other first-place finishers include Leo Wright (Amherst Pelham) in the 50 freestyle (21.95), Pat O'Neal (Boston College High School) in the 100 butterfly (53.21), Matt Tynan (Westford) in the 500 freestyle (4:40.95), Mike Lin (Lexington) in the 100 backstroke), and Tim Gladyshev (Brooklilne) in the 100 breaststroke (58.94).

Breen, Athanas, Brendan Moran, and Brennan teamed up for a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:15.02).

Division 2 Results
Wayland won two of three relays. Bobby Dresser, Mike Ren, Ian Stack, and Travis Downs won the 200 medley relay (1:38.73). Ren and Downs had individual wins in the 100 breaststroke (59.45) and the 100 freestyle (48.11), respectively.

King Philip's Pat Myers was a dual event winner in the 100 butterfly (51.05) and the 100 backstroke (52.19).

Other first-place finishers include Jeffrey Thomas (Bishop Feehan) in the 200 freestyle (1:43.75), Andrew St. Pierre (Bishop Stang) in the 200 IM (1:57.44), John Estanislau (East Longmeadow) in the 50 freestyle (21.95), and Matt Grippo (Longmeadow) in the 500 freestyle (4:40.12).

Downs, Stack, Andrew Gusev, and Charlie D'Orlando teamed up for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.56).

Sean O'Brien (Concord Carlisle) set a meet record in the diving competition with a score of 560.75. The previous record (560.60) was set by Scott Pomerleau (Waltham) in 1986. Matt Flynn of Holliston took second (479.00) and Rohan Bhatt of Wellesley placed third (417.55).
Chad Schreiber, Ryan Younis, Patrick Sullivan, and Thomas closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (318.63).
