NEW COMMIT: Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario’s Paige Banton has verbally committed to continue her academic and swimming career at Marshall University in the fall of 2020.

Primarily a breaststroker and IMer, Banton swims year-round with Sault Surge Aquatic Team under head coach Sarah MacDonald. She most recently recorded four best times at the Canadian Swimming Trials and won both breaststroke events at Dave Kensit Memorial meet in February. No stranger to national-level meets, she placed eighth in the 400m IM at the Canada Junior Championships this past summer.

She told Swimming World:

“I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to Marshall University where I can study biology and continue to do what I love – SWIMMING. I am very excited to work with my new coach and this amazing group of girls that welcomed me to the team during my visit. From that time on, I just knew that if I chose Marshall I would make memories that would last a lifetime. #daughterofMarshall”

In LCM, her best times include:

  • 50m breast – 33.76
  • 100m breast – 1:13.01
  • 200m breast – 2:39.65
  • 200m IM – 2:28.74
  • 400m IM – 5:25.29

In SCY, those times convert to:

  • 50 breast – 29.60
  • 100 breast – 1:04.24
  • 200 breast – 2:21.76
  • 200 IM – 2:10.44
  • 400 IM – 4:44.95

Banton will make an immediate impact in the Herd’s lineup when she arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024 as they only had one breaststroke scorer last season at the conference level. Banton’s best times (converted to yards) would’ve scored in the B-final of the 2019 C-USA Championships where Marshall finished fourth overall in the team standings.
