Marlins of Raleigh Donate Part of Swim-A-Thon Proceeds to Swim New Orleans Team Devastated by Hurricane Katrina
RALEIGH, N.C., Aug. 7 THE Marlins of Raleigh Swim Team made an $800 donation to the Swim New Orleans Swim Team, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina last fall. The money came from part of the proceeds from MOR's Swim-A-Thon.
MOR is a Silver Medal Club with USA Swimming's Club Excellence program which scored third among N.C. teams last year.
"Each year, we like to try to help those less fortunate that ourselves with our Swim-A-Thon,” MOR head coach Paul Silver said. “We have helped a family who lost their father on 9/11, assisted the Red Cross with Tsunami relief and this year wanted to help Swim New Orleans which was devastated last fall by Hurricane Katrina. The MOR swimmers were eager to help and it teaches them to sit back and appreciate what we have. Anything that we could do to lend both financial and moral support to another swim team was important for us. These folks need to know that people care and not just in the weeks immediately after the disaster.”
