Maine Men’s Class A High School State Championships

ORONO, Maine, March 3. BANGOR took home the men's state title in a tight fight for the top spot at the Maine Class A Championships.

Bangor sealed its championship with a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle, bringing its point total to 244. Cape Elizabeth and Cheverus tied for second closely behind Bangor with 239 apiece.

The state title added to Bangor's long history of dominance in Maine Class A swimming, marking the 23rd occasion that Bangor has received the team title crown.

Matt Libby delivered for second-place Cheverus, notching two individual event wins. Libby took first in the 200 freestyle (1:47.45) and the 100 butterfly (52.70).

Kyle Goan from Westbrook knocked off the 50 freestyle champion, James Wells of Morse, in the 100 freestyle finals with a winning time of 48.58. Goan also picked up a state title in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.89).

Brian McRae of Deering captured the diving title with a score of 297.75. Jordan Cadorette of Biddleford won the silver medal in the event (295.65) while Nicholas Cabral from Kennebunk turned in a bronze-medal performance (240.55).
