LSU Strengthens Diving Program With Fall Signers

BATON ROUGE, LA, December 20. LSU Tiger Diving coach Doug Shaffer announced the signing of two divers to national letters of intent for the fall signing season.

Highly-regarded Texas state high school prospects Alyson Thomas and Nathan Schreiber officially announced their decision to join an already excellent diver core.

"I am very excited that Alyson and Nathan have selected LSU to pursue their academics and athletics," said Shaffer. "They both are an ideal match for our program and will immediately add significant depth and strength to our diving squad."

Thomas, a native of Highland Village, Texas, was a U.S. Junior Olympic National qualifier in 2003 and 2004. Currently attending Marcus High School, she is the team captain and was recently named an All-American. Thomas is also a standout gymnast and has competed on the international level.

"Alyson’s gymnastic background and naturally aesthetic build are ideal for our sport," said Shaffer.

Schreiber, a native of San Antonio, Texas, is a six-time U.S. Junior Olympic National qualifier and was the Texas state runner-up in 2004. A high school All-America selection last season, Schreiber was named the male high school athlete of the year in 2003 and 2004.

"Nathan is a strong powerful diver capable of performing many of the more difficult dives," said Shaffer.

Both Thomas and Schreiber will participate in all diving events.
