LSU Splashes Into 2022 Recruiting with Verbal from Junior National Qualifier Josh Cobia

NEW COMMIT: Louisiana State University has picked up their first verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season from Josh Cobia of Northport, Ala. who announced his decision on social media.

He will arrive in Baton Rouge as a member of the Tigers’ Class of 2026.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m very excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at LSU! Thank you to everyone who supported me in making this decision, and to the amazing coaching staff for giving me this opportunity. Geaux tigers!!”

Cobia does his club swimming with Crimson Tide Aquatic and owns the Junior National cut in the 200 free. He most recently won the 200 free with four additional top-10 finishes at the Southeastern Swimming Championships in February and competed in three events at Juniors East in 2018.

His best times include (SCY/LCM):

  • 50 free – 21.26/24.82
  • 100 free – 46.37/53.61
  • 200 free – 1:39.49/1:55.91
  • 100 back – 51.27/1:00.02
  • 200 back – 1:54.60/2:15.04

A current junior at Tuscaloosa County HIgh School, Cobia was the runner-up in the 100 free and earned bronze in the 50 free as a sophomore at the Alabama State Championships. 

When he arrives on campus in the fall of 2022, Cobia will add his talents to a sprint group that will be led by 2020 SEC 100 free champion Brooks Curry who gave the Tigers their first SEC individual title since 2004.
