NEW COMMIT: Loyola University of Maryland has earned their first verbal commitment for the fall of 2019 from Cohasset, Mass. native Dean Spicer.

Spicer does his club swimming with Weymouth Club Waves and capped off his summer long course season with two personal bests at the New England LCM Senior Championships. He finished tenth in the 800m free and 12th in the 1500m free at Buffalo Sectionals in March and was a six-time finalist at New England Age Groups where his highest finish was a fourth-place showing in the mile. Also representing Cohasset High School, Spicer finished third in the 500 free and sixth in the 200 free at the MIAA State Championships as a junior after placing fifth in the former during his sophomore campaign.

He told Swimming World:

“Loyola is the perfect fit for me both athletically and academically. The team is amazing and I can’t wait to spend the next four years here! GO GREYHOUNDS!”

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:47.01
  • 500 free – 4:44.83
  • 1000 free – 9:44.06
  • 1650 free – 16:09.91
  • 200 fly – 1:56.91

When he suits up for the Greyhounds as a member of the class of 2023, Spicer will join a young but talented mid-distance group that includes Sung Lee, Reid Hussey and Nick Pacitti. His fastest mile time would’ve placed in the top-16 at the 2018 Patriot League Championships where Loyola finished fifth overall in the team standings.
