Loukas Earns Spot on USA Diving’s International Team Roster

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. Sophomore Christina Loukas' hard work at the International Selection Camp in Indianapolis, Ind., from Jan. 18-22 paid off as the Riverwoods, Ill., native earned a spot on USA Diving FINA Grand Prix team set to compete in Zhuhai, China from April 21-23.

"I am really happy for them," Indiana head diving coach Dr. Jeff Huber said. "It will be a good experience. We are looking forward to competing against the Chinese. I am pleased for Christina and Cassie, and look forward to going if I am selected as a coach for the team."

The defending Big Ten Diver of the Year and Championships will compete on the three-meter for the United States during the outing.

"I was really excited that I was selected," Loukas said. "I have never been to China. It will be cool to go there. I am really happy that Cassie is going with me. She helps me along and tells me what to expect. We have been to a lot of meets together. It is comforting to have her there."

Additionally, former Olympian and NCAA Champion Cassandra Cardinell will join Loukas on the trip. She will tangle with the world's best on the platform event.

"I am really excited to be going back to China," Cardinell said. "This will be the third time for me to go to China for this event. It is a great atmosphere there, and we get to compete against China. It will also be great to have another IU diver coming along. Hopefully Coach Huber will be able to go as a coach as well. It is going to be a lot of fun and a great experience."

Next up, the No. 15 Hoosiers head to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio State and No. 14 Penn State in a two-day dual meet on Jan. 27-28. The meet starts at 5 p.m., on Jan. 27 and concludes at 10 a.m., on Jan. 28. That meet will serve as the final tune-up before the Big Ten Championships held at the same venue on Feb. 15-18.
