NEW COMMIT: Fort Wayne, Ind. native Julian Norman will make his way to Baton Rouge next fall with his recent verbal commitment to Louisiana State University.

A butterfly specialist, Norman is also a solid IMer and distance freestyler who owns the Junior National cut in the 200 fly swimming year-round for SWAC Swim Team. He earned a pair of best times at Cary Futures over the summer which included a ninth-place showing in the 200m fly after placing fourth in that event at the Indiana Senior LCM Championships in July. He was a four-time finalist at the Indiana Senior SCY Championships and won the 200 fly and 200 free at the Cardinal Christmas Classic last winter. Norman is also a four-time Indiana State Championship finalist for Homestead High School after finishing fourth in the 200 free and eighth in the 500 free during both his sophomore and junior seasons.

He told Swimming World:

“I am honored and humbled to announce my verbal commitment to LSU! They have provided me the opportunity to pursue my athletics and academics at an incredible institution. The energetic coaching staff and welcoming team made me feel at home as soon as I stepped onto campus. I cannot wait to be a part of the LSU family! Geaux Tigers!”

His best times include:

  • 100 fly – 52.00
  • 200 fly – 1:51.72
  • 200 IM – 1:54.93
  • 400 IM – 4:07.15
  • 1000 free – 9:29.62
  • 1650 free – 15:57.74

When Norman suits up for the Tigers as a member of the class of 2023, he’ll join a butterfly group led by Trent Schachter, an IM squad with Jackson Lucas and a distance group that includes Braden Nyboer.
