Longhorns Kemp, Jamison Named Big 12 Swimmers of the Month, Mitchell Takes Diving Honors

AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 13. THREE University of Texas seniors captured Big 12 Conference honors on Thursday, the league office announced.

Chris Kemp (Southlake, Texas) earned the men's Swimmer of the Month honor, while Texas swept the women's awards as Tanica Jamison (Dublin, Calif.) and Summer Mitchell (Troy, Mich.) were named the Swimmer and
Diver of the month, respectively.

Kemp, who is a five-time All-American, helped fifth-ranked Texas sweep a meet with No. 13 Arizona State (192-152), No. 15 Arizona (205-138) and SMU (219-127) from Jan. 31-Feb. 1, by posting the top times in the 100- and 200-yard freestyles, as well as the 400-yard medley relay.

In the 100- and 200-yard freestyles, Kemp posted NCAA consideration times of 44.34 and 1:37.42, respectively, before teaming with sophmore Andrew Davidson (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.), freshman Christian Schurr (Austin, Texas) and junior Ian Crocker
(Portland, Maine) for an NCAA consideration mark of 3:15.37 in the 400-yard medley relay. Kemp, along with Crocker, junior Brendan Hansen (Haverford, Pa.) and freshman Aaron Peirsol (Irvine, Calif.), currently own the fastest time in the nation for the 400-yard medley
relay at 3:10.17, which was posted in December at the Texas Invitational (December 5).

On the women's side, Jamison became the third different Longhorn this season to earn Big 12 Swimmer of the Month honors as sophomore All-American Sarah Wanezek (Brookfield, Wis.) has been recognized twice and senior All-American Joscelin Yeo (Republic of
Singapore) earned the distinction in January. Jamison, a nine-time All-American, led eighth-ranked Texas to victories over No. 5 SMU (221-131), No. 6 Arizona (213-134), No. 14 Arizona State (236-113) and Rice (127-112) this past month.

Jamison posted four NCAA consideration times in individual events against Arizona, Arizona State and SMU to go along with a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. In the 200-yard freestyle, Jamison led all competitiors with a mark of 1:48.81, while also placing third in the 100-yard freestyle (50.89) and the 100-yard backstroke (56.39) as well as fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (55.25).

In diving, Mitchell was recognized as the conference diver of the month for the second time this season. After turning in a season-best score of 327.45 on the three-meter springboard, the Troy, Mich. native now leads the conference in three events: one-meter dual
(292.13), three-meter dual (327.45) and three-meter championship (542.15). With NCAA Diving Zone marks in all of those events, Mitchell is the only two-time Female Diver of the Month this season for the Big 12 Conference.
