LIVE: British Championships: Duncan Scott Breaks British 400IM Record; Lewis Burras Goes 47.88 In 100 Free
Duncan Scott set a new Commonwealth and British 400IM record of 4:09.18 at the British Championships.
Lewis Burras then went 47.88 in the 100 free, only 0.01 off Scott’s British mark, to head the world rankings as the first man inside 48 this year.

Men’s 1500m Freestyle
Budapest qualification time: 14:56.54
Dan Jervis was preselected after finishing fifth in Tokyo, leaving one spot up for grabs. The Welshman – who did a PB in the 400 free on the opening night – came home in 14:58.63, victory but in a time he was not happy with.
Women’s 50 Free
Budapest qualification time: 24.35
Anna Hopkin was the only woman inside 25secs in morning heats and she stopped the clock at 24.85 in the final to take the title, something she described as “a decent race”.
Isabella Hindley (25.25) and Evelyn Davis (25.39) were second and third.
Men’s 400IM
Budapest qualification time: 4:13.67
Duncan Scott led the way by almost 4.5secs in the heats despite gliding into the wall. The Scot – preselected following his 200IM silver in Tokyo – and he led throughout to touch in 4:09.18.
It cut 0.09 from the Commonwealth mark of 4:09.27 set by Brendon Smith of Australia at the Tokyo Olympics and lowered Max Litchfield’s British record of 4:09.62.
Women’s 200 Fly
Budapest qualification time: 2:07.91
Laura Stephens headed the field into the final and she took the title in 2:08.11, outside the cut.
Men’s 100 Free
Budapest qualification time: 48.15
This promised to be one of the battles of the meet with Lewis Burras going third in the British all-time rankings in prelims in 48.15.
The Winchester swimmer went 47.88, 0.01 outside Duncan Scott’s national record.
