Lisa Angiolini Crushes 200 Breaststroke Meet Record En-Route To Double Gold In Geneva
Lisa Angiolini set a meet record in the 200m breaststroke en-route to double gold on the second day of the Geneva International Challenge.
First up was the 50m breaststroke in which she was the only woman inside 31 seconds, touching in 30.95, 0.14 off the championship mark of 30.81 she set on the opening day. Florine Gaspard was second in 31.00 with Lucrezia Mancini third home in 32.21.

Angiolini returned for the 200 where she dominated throughout, the Italian stopping the clock at 2:24.86 to take 3.65secs off the previous standard of 2:28.51 that stood to Nikoleta Trnikova of Slovakia for five years.
Mancini claimed her second medal of the day with silver in 2:30.53 with Tes Schouten third in 2:32.04.
It marked a return for Schouten – the Olympic bronze medallist – following health issues that saw her hospitalised with “nerve pain, loss of power and function on the entire left side of her body” in November 2024.
The Netherlands swimmer moved to Antwerp last year to work with former Dutch head coach Mark Faber, training alongside the likes of Caspar Corbeau, Gaspard and Roos Vanotterdijk.
Corbeau also made a trip to the top of the podium, winning the 50 breast in 27.54 ahead of Francesco Pennetta (27.73) and Andrea Prapgicu (28.25). It was his second title in as many days following a dominant 200 breaststroke victory on the opening day.
Double Gold for Gastaldi; Ribeiro Takes Flight
Anita Gastaldi returned to the water a day after setting a meet mark in the 200IM on Friday. The Italian won the 50 back in 28.89 before returning to take the 100 fly in 59.03.
Diogo Ribeiro made two trips to the podium. The Portuguese headed the 50 fly in 23.36 ahead of Egypt’s Abdelrahman Elaraby (23.44) and Clement Secchi (23.80). The 21-year-old returned for the 100 fly in which he won the 2024 world title months before the Paris Olympics.
Secchi upgraded 50 bronze to gold in 52.39 ahead of Isak Fernandez Rodrigo (52.45) with Ribeiro third in 53.08.

Maria De Valdes Alvarez completed the distance double by adding the 800 to her 1500 title in 8:41.72.

Alessandro Acampora completed the IM double with a 2:03.88 victory in the 200, Francesco Volpe won the men’s 400 free in 3:52.80 and Noah Verreth took the men’s 50 back in 25.36
