Lillhage, Gustavsson Named Sweden’s Swimmers of the Year

STOCKHOLM, December 23. JOSEFIN Lillhage and Martin Gustavsson were named Sweden's female and male Swimmers of the Year for 2003, reports www.simma.nu, Swedish swimming's web site.

Lillhage was the bronze medalist in the 200m freestyle at the World Championships in Barcelona. Gustavvson, a University of Minnesota grad, placed fourth in the 100 meter breaststroke at the European Short Course Championships in Dublin earlier this month.

Last year's winners were Emma Igelstrom and Lars Frolander.

Other award winners:
Female Junior Swimmer of the Year: Gabriella Fagundez – semifinalist in the butterfly, World Champs in Barcelona .

Male Junior Swimmer of the Year: Marcus Piehl – bronze medalist at the Euro Junior Champs.

Coach of the year: Pär Gabrielsson, Väsby Swim – coach of Lillhage and Fagundez, among others.

2003 Surprise of the Year: Emelie Kirkegaard – who won her first national title at the age of 26.
