Lauren Votava, Andrew Sansoucie Victorious on Day Two of Columbia Sectionals

Day two of the 2015 Region VIII Summer Sectionals in Columbia, Missouri continued to turn out strong performances.

In the women’s 200 meter freestyle, the first event of the night, Lauren Votava of Rockwood Swim Club took home another win with a time of 2:02.11, her first Sectional victory being the 100 meter freestyle on the previous day. Her swim was also under the Olympic Trials cut of 2:02.39. Second went to Kira Zubar with a time of 2:02.75, with Felicity Cann close behind, taking third with a time of 2:02.91.

For the men’s 100 meter butterfly, Andrew Sansoucie from the University of Missouri showed off his victorious sprinting skills with a time of 53.61 for his second win of the meet, the first being the 100 meter freestyle on day one. Sansoucie was also under the Olympic Trials time standard of 54.79. Kyle Ward snatched second place with a time of 55.42, while Ethan Shih took third with a time of 55.60.

On the men’s side of the 200 meter freestyle, University of Missouri swimmers landed in the top three spots. In first was Andrew Phillips with a time of 1:53.45. Grabbing second was teammate Nicholas Davis with a time of 1:54.17. Taking third place was fellow Mizzou Tiger Mitchell Forde with a time of 1:54.72.

The next event, the women’s 400 meter IM, was also won by a Mizzou Tiger. Sharlene Brady smoked the competition with a winning time of 4:50.76. Brady was easily under the Olympic Trials time standard of 4:54.99. Stealing second was teammate Ellen Suek with a time of 4:58.15, while Elizabeth Walker rounded out the top three with a third-place time of 4:59.04.

The men’s 400 meter IM was dominated by University of Missouri swimmers as well, with Mackenzie Darragh winning with a time of 4:29.69. Phillip Willett grabbed second with a time of 4:30.36, and Carter Wallace swam his way into third with a time of 4:34.46.

The women’s 100 meter butterfly showcased talent, with the top two finishers both meeting the Olympic Trials cut of 1:01.19. Danielle Barbiea of the University of Missouri dropped nearly a second from prelims with a time of 1:00.64 to seize a win in the event. Fifteen year old Taylor Pike from Razorback Aquatic Club Aquahaw finished in second with a time of 1:00.87, yet had already met the Olympic Trials time standard in prelims. Swimming into third was Erin Metzger-Seymour with a time of 1:01.29.

The first relays of the meet were the 400 meter freestyle relays. On the women’s side, Rockwood Swim Club, made up of Jordan Stout (58.56), Franceska Petrosino (58.62), Sydney Zupan (58.56), and Lauren Votava (56.03) dominated with a time of 3:51.77. Second place went to Club Huskers with a time of 3:54.14, while third was taken by Greater Nebraska Swim Team with a time of 3:56.05.

On the men’s side, the Flyers Aquatic Swim Team touched out the competition with a time of 3:32.47. The winning team was made up of Nicholas Alexander (52.85), Samuel Heveroh (52.49), Justin Mars (53.78), and John Wilmsen (53.35). Swimming into second was Swim Omaha with a time of 3:33.21, approximately one second ahead of third-place Rockwood Swim Club and their finishing time of 3:34.19.
