NEW COMMIT: Towson University has picked up their first verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from versatile swimmer Laura Gaffney of Yorktown, Va.

She told Swimming World:

“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim for Towson University! I can’t wait to be part of such an amazing team! Go Tigers! 🐯🖤💛”

Gaffney does her club swimming with Coast Guard Blue Dolphins under coach Jack Bierie and most recently placed eighth in the 200 fly and 12th in the 200 IM at Virginia Seniors in March. Last summer, she recorded 100% best times at Virginia LCM Seniors before going on to take 16th in both the 200m free and 200m fly at Greensboro Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 50 fly – 26.78
  • 100 fly – 56.25
  • 200 fly – 2:02.32
  • 200 IM – 2:05.93
  • 400 IM – 4:28.53
  • 200 free – 1:52.52
  • 500 free – 5:04.47

Also competing for York High School, Gaffney is a six-time Virginia 3A State Championship finalist. She placed third in the 200 IM and fifth in the 100 fly as a junior while taking second and third, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season. She also raced to silver in the 200 free and bronze in the 500 free in her rookie campaign.

Gaffney will make an immediate impact when she arrives on campus as a member of the Tigers’ class of 2025. Her best time in the 200 fly would’ve earned bronze at the 2020 CAA Championships while she also would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 IM, 400 IM, and 100 fly.
