Kylie Palmer Sidelined With Hand Injury
Kylie Palmer, an Olympic Gold Medalist from Australia, suffered a deep cut on the webbing of her left hand between her thumb and forefinger, as reported by The Australian. She reportedly cut herself while using a knife. The injury forced her to withdraw from next week’s Victorian Championships.
The Brisbane native underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair the muscle.
Palmer is expected to miss two to three weeks of training. With Australian Olympic Trials looming, this is a tough challenge for the 25-year-old.
At the 2008 Olympics, Palmer helped Australia to a gold medal in the 800-meter freestyle relay. She swam on the same relay at the 2012 Olympics in London, earning a silver. She is also a three time silver medalist at the long-course World Championships.
Recently, Palmer has been in the Australian news for out of the pool issues. She had to sit out the 2015 World Championships in Kazan because of a failed doping test.
