Kitajima Sets Asian Record in Short Course 100 meter Breaststroke

TOKYO, February 22. ONE day after a disappointing 2:08.09 effort in the short course 200m breaststroke, double world record-holder Kosuke Kitajima swam 100 meters breaststroke in a Japanese and Asian record of 58.23.

The swim came on the second day of the Winter Tokyo Swim Meet at the Tatsumi International Swim Center.

The previous record was set by Kitajima at the World Cup in Berlin last mohth at 58.24.

Although yesterday's 200m breaststroke was more than two seconds behind his personal record, he showed satisfactory face today saying, "my condition is still at 20 to 30% off my best. But today's result was certainly encouraging for the next race."

Kitajima's next race will be the Olympic selection meet scheduled from April 20 – 25 in Tokyo.
