King Aquatic Club’s Cierra McCarty Heads to East Coast With Verbal to Tufts University

NEW COMMIT: Tufts University has received a verbal commitment for the fall of 2021 from freestyle and IM specialist Cierra McCarty of Tacoma, Wash.

She told Swimming World:

“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Tufts University!! I would like to thank my family, coaches, and friends for their endless support throughout this process! I can’t wait to be a baby Jumbo!! Roll ‘Bos!”

McCarty swims year-round with King Aquatic Club and most recently competed at the Washington Open in January where she finished seventh in the 500/1650 free and 13th in the 1000 free. She also raced to seventh in the 400 IM and 14th in the 200 free at Pacific Northwest Seniors in December.

In summer 2019, finished fourth in the 400m IM and 16th in the 400m free at Pacific Northwest LCM Seniors.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 24.30
  • 100 free – 53.19
  • 200 free – 1:53.31
  • 500 free – 5:03.72
  • 1000 free – 10:32.78
  • 1650 free – 17:43.58
  • 200 IM – 2:10.56
  • 400 IM – 4:30.91

Also competing for Stadium High School, McCarty is a five-time Washington 3A State Championship finalist. She finished sixth in both the 200 free and 500 free as a junior while taking sixth in the 50 free and 500 free during her sophomore season.

McCarty will make a big impact when she suits up for the Jumbos as a member of the Class of 2025. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 400 IM, B-final of the 200/500 free, placed top-6 in the 1000 free, and scored in the top-8 of the mile at the 2020 NESCAC Championships where Tufts was the team runner-up.
