KHSAA Runner-Up Alex Ochsenbein Stays Local, Gives Verbal Pledge to In-State Kentucky Wildcats for 2023

NEW COMMIT: The University of Kentucky has successfully kept local product Alex Ochsenbein of Lexington in-state for his college career, as the junior verbally committed to the Wildcats for the fall of 2023.

He will join Josh Fisher, Lance JohnsonAJ Abram and Isaac Fleig in Lexington in the fall of 2023.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“Thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Kentucky! I’d like to thank my friends, my family, and all the coaches that have helped me become the athlete I am today. And with that said, GO CATS??”

A talented breaststroker, Ochsenbein does his club swimming with Premier Aquatics of Central Kentucky and most recently placed third in the 200 breast at the Kentucky 13&O Championships. A Junior National qualifier, he also achieved four best times at the Southern Premier Invitational and raced three events at Juniors East.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 55.17
  • 200 breast – 2:01.18

Currently a junior at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, Ochsenbein placed second in the 100 breast and seventh in the 200 free at the 2022 Kentucky State Championships. He finished 11th in the 200 IM and 12th in the 100 breast during his sophomore season.
